DESCRIPTION: APW - Tremont Watch Co, Boston, very scarce 3/4 plate model, 15J, 18S, silver OF original case bearing Birmingham hallmarks for 1876, "A G" marking in cameo for casemaker Alfred Gurney, unsigned white enamel SS dial, KWKS, gilt mvt, s#40627 with matching serial number within case. An excellent example with matching movement and case serial numbers. The English made case, English style dial, and 1876 hallmark date indicate that this watch was finished by the English Watch Co. from Tremont material dispersed to this firm by Aaron Dennison. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered spotting to plate surfaces, fine scratch between third and fourth wheel jewel settings, replacement balance cock screw, case screw is missing; dial with two small hls below 6; excellent hands; case rear lift spring is only providing a bit of impulse at initial range of opening and then not contacting case lid further, case shows ample wear, a dark patina, some dings around rear perimeter, largely reduced engine turning detail with full loss of perimeter; bow pivots semi-freely; good glass crystal of somewhat smaller diameter with some adhesive around its seat.
